Medicaid

Medicaid is a government health insurance program administered by the Human Resources Administration in the City of New York. It provides comprehensive health care coverage as long as you obtain services from providers that accept Medicaid. If you receive Public Assistance or SSI, you will automatically receive Medicaid coverage. If applying for Medicaid at a Medicaid office, it generally takes 30-60 days to process the application.

If you are not blind, elderly or disabled, and have annual income of $16,329 or less, you can enroll in Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act’s New York State of Health Marketplace at any time during the year. If a single person’s income is less than $24,120 then the new Essential Plan is possible. GMHC has certified application counselors to help enroll.
