Solidarity, Resistance and Joy: Pride Month Photos!

It was a busy Pride Month for GMHC! We energetically shared in solidarity, resistance, and joy with our New York City communities throughout June, at a time when the persecution of LGBTQ+ people and communities has sharply increased, through both discriminatory legislation and physical attacks.

Fittingly, NYC Pride Month’s theme this year was “Strength Through Solidarity.” The Stonewall Uprising of 1969 was itself an act of resistance against persecution, and it inspired the first NYC Pride March in 1970, initially called the Christopher Street Liberation Day.

We’re sharing a few photo highlights in the same spirit.

GMHC’s staff, supporters, and friends joined in a plethora of Pride events across the city, including the Queens Pride Parade in Jackson Heights on June 5; Brooklyn Pride Twilight Parade in Park Slope on June 10; Queer Art Summerfest at the 3 Dollar Bill in Brooklyn on June 10; Harlem Pride Festival on June 24; and the Queer Liberation March in Manhattan on June 25–which has its own theme, “Trans and Queer, Forever Here!”

Our Testing Center staff represented GMHC for National HIV Testing Day on June 27, providing free and confidential HIV testing at Walgreens. During Pride Month, GMHC provided HIV and STI testing and hosted information tables at events across the city to raise awareness about the agency’s programs and services for people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Our staff members also spoke at Pride events around the city—including the NYC Pride Rally on June 17.
