HIV and Education Trainings

These trainings are intended for non-physician health and human services providers who offer HIV, STI, and viral hepatitis prevention, testing, care, and support services. All trainings are free of charge and funded by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute.

Webinar: Promoting Health Care Services for Black and Latino YMSM


This training will focus on how prevention, support services, and outreach staff can help Black and Latino YMSM understand the importance of health care services. Participants will be prepared to educate on what to expect from a clinical visit, how to discuss their specific health concerns with their health care provider, and how to make informed decisions about when and how to disclose pertinent personal information such as sexual orientation, sexual practices, and other issues.

Webinar: Basic Skills for Working with Transgender Clients

This webinar will provide an introduction to understanding transgender people's diverse identities and experiences, and help participants build basic communication skills needed to effectively engage transgender clients. The training will focus on key concepts and terms used in transgender communities. It will also help participants improve their skill and comfort in communicating with transgender clients in a welcoming and affirming way.

This webinar will provide an overview of best practices for creating a welcoming and safe environment for transgender clients, and help participants build their skills in identifying structural barriers, addressing those barriers in their day-to-day work, and discussing sexual health with transgender clients in an affirming and inclusive way.

New Webinar: Recognizing and Supporting the Assets of YMSM


This pilot presentation of a new webinar will explore how non-clinical providers can use a strength-based approach to identify the assets and resiliencies of young men who have sex with men (YMSM). The training will describe adolescent development and sexual identity development, and their correlation with the assets of YMSM.  By exploring the strengths, and resiliencies that YMSM possess, providers can use them to empower YMSM to maximize their health and wellness.
