Workforce Development Program

The Workforce Development Programs at GMHC help clients find jobs and succeed in the workplace. We offer comprehensive vocational assessment, training, job placement assistance, and retention services to ensure successful transitions to work. With enhanced skills, increased self-esteem, and confidence built by the program, participants are motivated to attain employment and achieve greater financial independence and autonomy.

Workforce Orientations

The RISE Program

The RISE (Realizing Independence through Support and Employment) program is specifically designed to help HASA clients gain access to gainful employment. Through a collaboration with NYC Human Resource Administration’s HASA program, RISE provides vocational training, internships, employment counseling and job placement and retention assistance to HIV-positive individuals who receive HASA benefits. RISE orientations are conducted every Monday at 11 am at GMHC.

The Match Program

The MATCH Program provides employment counseling and job readiness services and walks participants through the process of finding and retaining employment. MATCH orientations are conducted every Tuesday at 11 am at GMHC. However, due to COVID-19, all orientations and assessments are virtual and self-initiated on any day and any time until further notice.

YES – Youth Empowerment Services

YES provides job support for HIV-negative youth at high risk for HIV infection. Eligibility requirements: you must be 18 to 29 years old, HIV negative, and looking for employment support.

SUNY ATTAIN Computer Lab at GMHC

GMHC has a 24-station computer lab designed to assist those who are seeking employment, job training, or improved computer skills. In addition to access to the internet for employment research, the lab offers an array of computer-based trainings in various fields including Carpentry, Cosmetology, Electrician, Child Care, and Office Work. There are also computer-based, self-paced trainings available for computer programs including Excel, Word, FrontPage, PowerPoint, and Access. Due to COVID-19, all classes are being conducted online. Financial Coaching

Provided by the Financial Coaching Corps of the Community Service Society of New York.
Our Financial Coaches can assist you in developing the skills needed to manage money and gain financial stability in the following areas:

  • Setting Financial Goals
  • Budgeting and Saving
  • Opening a Bank Account
  • Reviewing Credit Reports
  • Resolving Debt Problems / Student Loans
  • Public Benefit and Tax Credit Eligibility
