ACTION ALERT!

ACT NOW: EXPAND DRUG COVERAGE FOR
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

EPIC is a New York State program for people over the age of 65 that need help paying for their prescription drugs. It covers almost all prescriptions. Today, we have a chance to extend this coverage to people with disabilities (including people with AIDS who qualify for Social Security Disability and Medicare), regardless of age.

There is an important bill being introduced in both houses of the New York Legislature that would expand EPIC to income eligible individuals receiving Social Security Disability (SSDI). If it passes, many New Yorkers who cannot afford their medications will finally get meaningful help paying for their prescription drugs.

MAKE TWO CALLS TO ALBANY TODAY:

Call the Assembly switchboard at (518) 455-4100 and the Senate switchboard at (518) 455-2800. If you don't know who your Assembly member is, just tell the operator your zip code and they can connect you. You can do the same when calling your Senator. When you are connected to your representative, tell them:

"My name is _______I live in your district in ______, New York. I urge you to do everything you can to pass Assembly Bill 3074 [or Senate Bill 1357 if you are calling your senator] which will expand EPIC coverage to under-65 individuals with disabilities and chronic illness. This bill is critical to New Yorkers with AIDS and to all Medicare recipients with disabilities. Please stand up for New Yorkers with disabilities and actively support this legislation."
