Fashion Forward
Each year, luminaries from New York’s fashion scene come together for Fashion Forward, one of GMHC’s most popular fundraising events. On the runway, creations by Yigal Azrouel, Richard Chai, Diane von Furstenburg, Narciso Rodriguez, Simon Spurr, and Anna Sui surprised and delighted attendees. Hosted by Tim Gunn, this year’s runway show and silent auction raised over $250,000 in vital funds for GMHC’s programs and services.

This annual fundraising dinner helps GMHC feed thousands of people living with HIV and AIDS, and this year raised more than $650,000. The evening paid tribute to two of GMHC’s longest-serving volunteers, donors, former Board members and life-long supporters, Judy Peabody and Joan Tisch.
We were privileged to commemorate the tenacity, grace, and generosity of Judy Peabody by establishing an award in her name that is to be presented annually to someone who embodies her boundless commitment to the health and welfare of others.
It was perfectly fitting that the inaugural Judith Peabody Humanitarian Award be presented to Joan Tisch, whose own commitment to activism, advocacy, and philanthropy stands alone among her peers. In the spirit of Judy Peabody’s legacy of dedication to people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS, we honored Joan Tisch for her prodigious heart and extraordinary philanthropy which continue to have groundbreaking influence on GMHC’s momentum and progress.

AIDS Walk New York 2011
On May 15, 2011, over 45,000 people converged on Central Park for the 26th annual AIDS Walk. Joined by celebrities, media, and elected officials, this year’s walkers raised an impressive $6.2 million benefitting GMHC and 41 other AIDS service organizations. Opening ceremonies included moving addresses by celebrated activists and community leaders along with performances by the cast of Broadway’s Priscilla Queen of the Desert and four-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald. Since its inception 26 years ago, GMHC’s AIDS Walk has raised over $116 million for programs and services.
