We at GMHC are outraged by the discriminatory treatment of an HIV-positive student. Even as we move into the fourth decade of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, this tragic situation reminds us that stigma and shame attached to HIV and AIDS have not gone away. We can — in fact we must do better. That is why we must remain committed to educating communities about HIV and AIDS, how to prevent HIV, and advocate for policies that do not reinforce discrimination.
