New York, NY — Marjorie J. Hill, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis) was selected as part of the 2012 class for the GreaterNY program, an initiative of the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City. This innovative program pairs non-profit leaders with counterparts in the business community for two-year partnerships, promoting collaboration and support, and assisting non-profits in achieving their mission. Among the outcomes sought by Greater NY are: the development of earned income streams; new marketing and branding strategies; improved individual donor campaigns and membership programs; new corporate partnerships; and strengthened boards of directors (including increasing board management capacities). The two partners will collaborate at least 10 hours a month. This cohort is the second class for the program. The initiative was launched by the Mayor Bloomberg's administration (the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services working with the Department of Cultural Affairs) in 2009. Participants in the program are eligible to apply for GreaterNY Sustainability grants through a competitive process. These grants seek to assist non-profits in implementing capacity-building projects for organizational endurance.
Dr. Hill has been paired with Carol "Lili" Lynton, from Dinex Group LLP. Ms. Lynton was the co-founder and operating partner of Dinex Group, LLP, which she managed with legendary chef Daniel Boulud. Dinex operates fourteen restaurants in NYC throughout the world. She currently serves as a Senior Vice President of the New York City Investment Fund. She previously worked in the financial services industry, both at Lehman Brothers and Sanford C. Bernstein. Ms. Lynton also founded a private investment partnership in 1988, which took a small traditional savings bank and created Telebank, an internet banking pioneer (later acquired by E-Trade). Lili is delighted to be part of the program and to be teamed with GMHC. "I look forward to working with Dr. Hill and GMHC as they enter their fourth decade. Their goals of HIV/AIDS prevention and support have never been more important as HIV continues to spread in America among our most vulnerable populations. I am grateful to the GreaterNY program for connecting us and for doing so much to facilitate our working together."
Dr. Hill concurred, noting, "I am honored to have been chosen as one of the Non-Profit leaders to participate. GMHC continues to look for new ways to improve operations and increase our visibility. I know working with Lili Lynton will be a rewarding opportunity and will foster additional ideas and resources, to help further our mission. I especially think it will be helpful for us as GMHC moves forward into greater engagement in mental health and substance use services."
