I was diagnosed with HIV and have questions about drug therapy.
Question
I was diagnosed with HIV and have been talking to my doctor about
doing drug therapy. Is there a support group that I can join to
find out more about this? I would appreciate it if you could send
me some literature that might be useful or point me in the right
direction. Thanks in advance.
Answer
Hello,
There is a lot of support out there regarding treatment options
and making choices about taking care of yourself. It would help
to know your location so we could send referrals that are near
you.
Support groups are one of the most meaningful ways that people
with HIV share their experiences. If you're in New York, we have
support groups that happen here at GMHC. You can call our Group
Services Unit for more information at 212-367-1144.
We also have our Treatment Education Program where you can find
out more about different treatment options available. You can email
them at treatl@gmhc.org or talk to a Health Educator or learn about
our Treatment Library by calling 212-367-1455. Or check out the treatment
section of our Web site. Some other treatment information lines
include AIDS Treatment Data Network at 800-734-7104 and Project
Inform at 800-822-7422.We can also send you a directory of services
from Body Positive that lists all kinds of support services throughout
New York City.
It's important to be able to talk about your concerns. Feel free
to call our Hotline as well if you want to speak to someone or
need more information on support that's available. You can reach
us at 212-807-6655 or 800-243-7692.
Good luck,
