   Introduction

The amount of information available regarding how and when to treat HIV is enormous, even overwhelming. While it's not necessary, or even possible, to read everything that has been written, it is important that you find some good, up-to-date sources of information that work for you. Make sure to check for updates often, since treatment options, and our understanding of how they work in the body, change frequently. Important questions and topics, at left, are discussed in this section.

GMHC's Treatment Education and Advocacy department offers a number of ways to help you learn about treatments. These include:

The Rachel Berger HIV/AIDS Treatment Library
GMHC's treatment library is a great resource for current information on the many different HIV treatment options. The library has internet accessible computers for online treatment research and offers computer and internet classes for new and first-time users. The library is located on the 6th floor, and is open most days from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please call 212-367-1455 for library hours and further information.

Peer Counseling
GMHC's free and confidential peer counseling service can help you get answers to questions you may have about treatments. Call 212-367-1455 for more information.

Monthly forums, workshops and seminars
GMHC offers a variety of treatment related seminars and workshops each month. Topics range from the basics of HIV disease and treatment to managing side effects through nutrition. In addition, GMHC collaborates with other leading treatment groups to offer community forums on different topics each month. For topics and locations of forums, workshops, and seminars, call 212-367-1458.

Treatment Issues
As one of the nation's leading newsletters on new and experimental AIDS therapies, Treatment Issues will help keep you up-to-date on the latest HIV and AIDS therapies. Free subscriptions are available for people living with AIDS with qualifying incomes. An indexed archive of Treatment Issues is available online.
