On Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center,
Gay Men's Health Crisis will present the return of Music for
Life, last produced in 1993. The benefit, Music for Life:
An Evening Honoring Judith and Samuel Peabody and Stan Herman,
will honor three of our most dedicated long-term volunteers and
supporters. Judy and Stan are both former Directors of the agency.
Stage director Jay Lesenger, the Artistic and General Director
of the Chautauqua Opera, will produce the concert and Maestro Joseph
Colaneri of the Metropolitan Opera will serve as Musical Director
and Conductor, leading the renowned Orchestra of St. Luke's.
The Music for Life concerts held in 1987, 1990 and 1993
marshaled an extraordinary level of dedication and support from
truly legendary members of the Classical Music community, including
such renowned performers as Kathleen Battle, Placido Domingo, Marilyn
Horne, Midori, Jessye Norman, Luciano Pavarotti, Itzhak Perlman,
Leontyne Price, Samuel Ramey, Frederica von Stade, Andre Watts
and Yo-Yo Ma. GMHC is once again inviting the greatest performers
from the past, present and future of the Opera and Classical Music
world to participate in the magic of Music for Life.
All proceeds from Music for Life will be used to provide
essential resources for GMHC's ongoing and pioneering efforts to
reduce the spread of HIV disease; to help people with HIV/AIDS
maintain and improve their health and independence; to advocate
on behalf of those infected with, affected by or at risk for HIV
infection; and to keep the prevention, treatment, and cure of HIV
an urgent national and local priority.
