On Wednesday morning, November 15, 2006, visitors joined Gay Men's
Health Crisis staff and volunteers at the Meals Program Showcase,
the first in a series of GMHC Program Showcase Events.
Held in the beautiful, sunlit Peter Krueger Dining Room, the event
began with a tasty, heart-smart continental breakfast followed
by comments from GMHC Chief Operating Officer Robert Bank, Senior
Managing Director of Development and Legislative Funding Janet
Weinberg, and Jeff Rindler, Director of the Volunteer, Work & Wellness
Center at GMHC. Along with Meals Program staff and volunteers,
the speakers told the guests how their support enables GMHC to
annually meet the complex nutritional needs of thousands of our
impoverished clients living with HIV. Guests heard about the 96,000
hot meals GMHC served last year alone, often the only daily hot
meal our clients have. They also heard of the confidence and direction
that the work in the meals program has brought to former clients
and the important sense of community that motivates our volunteers.
The event closed with a tour of the Meals and Wellness Program
facilities, allowing guests to see how their support makes a difference
in the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS.
