Lifetime Achievement

Mathilde Krim, Ph.D.
Founding Chariman
amfAR—The Foundation for AIDS Research
Soon after the first cases of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome
(AIDS) were reported in 1981, Mathilde Krim recognized that this new
disease raised grave scientific and medical questions and that it
might have important socio-political consequences. She dedicated
herself to increasing the public's awareness of AIDS and to a better
understanding of its cause, its modes of transmission and its epidemiologic
pattern. Dr. Krim also became personally active in AIDS research through
her work with interferons natural substances now used in the
treatment of certain viral and neoplastic diseases. Read More > > >
Craig R. Miller
AIDS Walk Founder
Since creating the world's first AIDS Walk in Los Angeles in 1985, Craig
R. Miller and his colleagues at MZA Events have raised more than $300 million
for the fight against AIDS in cities throughout the United States. In 2006
alone, the MZA-produced AIDS Walk New York, AIDS Walk San Francisco, and AIDS
Walk Los Angeles generated more funds than at any point in each of their
20+ year histories. These record-breaking achievements stand in stark
contrast to the virulent downward trend in fundraising for the domestic
HIV epidemic. Craig has also organized many successful AIDS Walks
in cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, and Ft. Lauderdale.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams have a built a company that represents
the power of entrepreneurial skill in the service of social change. Their
embodiment of best practices in the workplace has extended to a sincere
commitment to making the world a better place. Their philanthropic activism
extends to the community around them, as evidenced by their recent work with
the AIDS Leadership Foothills Alliance in Hickory, North Carolina, not far
from where their company is based. Mitchell and Bob were recently responsible
for revitalizing the organization, helping it out of debt and back on a steady
course. Their donation of beautiful furniture to GMHC's Living Room transformed
the space into a warm, welcoming environment for clients who all too often face
a cold bureaucratic system. Mitchell and Bob's generosity has provided comfort
to people in need and an example of individuals firmly committed to their
ideals.
