The Action Center is a place where GMHC clients come to learn from each other about policies that affect people living with HIV/AIDS. The goal is to empower clients to take Action on their own behalf to improve their lives. For more information on how you can get involved, please call 212.367.1587.
MEETINGS: The Action Center meets three times a week to discuss current legislation and policy changes. Sometimes speakers from local organizations are invited to discuss their work and how the Action Center members can get involved. All meetings are held in English.
ACTIONS: In addition to learning about policy changes, the Action Center makes an effort to translate that knowledge into advocacy. Advocacy includes participation in activities including rallies, voter registration, campaigns and lobbying. With regard to lobbying, every year Action Center members meet with elected officials at the local, state, and federal level. Typically at least one lobby trip to Dc or Albany is arranged each year.
These meetings will provide information about how HIV/AIDS policies are affecting women today and discuss steps on how to take action, including lobbying our elected officials. These meetings are open to all women that are GMHC clients. For more information please call at 212-367-1587.
