GMHC ANNOUNCES SELECTION OF INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
NEW YORK, N.Y., Jan. 17 The Board of Directors of Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC)
today announced the selection of Dr. Marjorie J. Hill to serve as the agency's interim Executive
Director.
Dr. Hill will serve in this position while a search is conducted to find a replacement
for Ana Oliveira, who served the agency in the role of Executive Director for six years and
will be pursuing other professional interests.
"Dr. Hill is a recognized leader in the HIV/AIDS community and brings a collective wealth
of experience and accomplishments to her new role as GMHC's interim Executive Director,"
said GMHC Board Chair John Colón. "The Board is confident that she will further the agency's
fiscal and programmatic achievements that have greatly enhanced the lives of people living
with and affected by HIV and AIDS."
Dr. Hill has a long leadership history with GMHC. Most recently she served as the
first director of the Women's Institute, and served as a Board member from 1994 to 1999
and Board co-chair from 1999 to 2001. In addition, prior to joining the agency, Dr. Hill
worked in city government, under two administrations first as the LGBT liaison under Mayor
Dinkins, and then as Assistant Commissioner for HIV/AIDS Services at the New York City
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene under Mayor Bloomberg, where her achievements
included expanding needle exchange in the city and coordinating citywide distribution
of over 5 million male and female condoms in 2004.
Ms. Oliveira will continue to serve as Executive Director until her departure, and
will work closely with Dr. Hill and the agency's Senior Management to ensure a smooth transition.
