Statement on the Murder of Dr. George Tiller

June 5, 2009, New York, NY — Today Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) expresses profound sadness related to the death of Dr. George Tiller. Tiller was a medical a provider of female reproductive health care including abortions in Wichita, Kansas. He was shot this past Sunday, while attending church, by an extreme anti-abortion activist.

GMHC remains committed to the availability of comprehensive medical services to all in need, and is adamantly opposed to efforts that attempt to restrict women's rights to access legally and medically appropriate healthcare services. In addition to providing services to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, GMHC advocates for civil rights, and supports reproductive healthcare for women in need. Dr. Tiller's work in Kansas shared that commitment. His tragic death is a loss for our community.
