The Michael Palm Center for AIDS Care and Support
The Michael Palm Center for AIDS Care and Support is the primary vehicle of
entry to services for new clients, ensuring effective linkage to and coordination
of care, both
internally at GMHC and externally in collaboration with our community partners.
It has two units;
- Coordinated Care which includes new client intake
and assessment, crisis intervention, case management, and client advocacy
- Counseling and Support
which includes, short-term individual counseling, and support
groups which ensure that long-term needs are addressed.
New Client Registration
GMHC offers many services. Some of these services are designed
specifically for HIV-positive men and women and require that you
participate in a registration process. During the registration process
we will ask you questions and listen to your concerns. At the end
of this process we will make recommendations about the services
we think you will find useful and we will help you connect to these
services.
Ryan White Case Management Services
Finding an apartment or safe shelter, finding an HIV specialist,
dealing with unpaid rent or an eviction, facing expensive prescriptions,
or being an undocumented person and in need of care can feel overwhelming.
Trying to do all of these things at once can feel impossible. Let
our staff help you figure out how to get and keep health insurance,
other benefits, housing, voice-mail, food assistance, and medical,
dental and mental health providers.
Group Services Program
Connecting to other people who are experiencing similar
concerns or problems can be a valuable experience.
The Group Services Program offers people a chance to talk about their
own experiences, share information and give each other social
and emotional support.
Mental Health Supportive
Services
Everyone needs someone to talk to, but some find it hard
to get enough support from family or friends. The Mental Health
Supportive Services Department offers a chance to meet one-on-one
with a mental health professional to discuss the emotional stress
of living with HIV/AIDS and to get help in figuring out what to do
about it.

Prevention Case Management Services
Behaviors can be hard to change without good support especially
around substance use and sexual risk. Prevention Case Management
is a 12-week harm reduction program for HIV-positive men that is
designed to help people look at their behaviors and work towards
identifying reasonable goals through individual, peer and group
counseling.
Substance Use Counseling and Education (SUCE)
SUCE offers free and confidential services, such as one-on-one and group counseling to HIV positive and negative gay and bisexual men who use alcohol and drugs. SUCE services offer a supportive environment for individuals to identify goals in order to change their drug use and understand its relationship to their sexual behaviors. SUCE also offers 10-week psycho-educational group, which provides a safe place for participants to explore their drug use and how it relates to their sexual behaviors.
