ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATE, Geffen Center
The primary function of the Administrative Associate is to coordinate the scheduling of testing services, data entry, file maintenance and maintain the overall clinic environment. Specific areas of responsibility include welcome visitors and clients in person or on the telephone and providing information regarding Testing Center services. The Admin Associate must also manage a multi-line phone system and appropriately respond to and refer a wide variety of inquiries to appropriate services internally and externally. Duties also include creating a monthly calendar of testing appointments, coordinating and scheduling all pretest counseling appointments, including agency staff appointments, and post test counseling appointments as necessary. Other responsibilities include conducting HIV rapid testing using Oraquick Advanced method as needed, accepting and coordinating payments for service and balancing all payments received by the Testing Center on a weekly basis, coordinating its timely delivery to the Accounting Department, protecting client rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in accordance with NYS Confidentiality laws. This position may be required to supervise administrative volunteers and reception desk interns for the 6th floor reception area. This position must be able to create strong working relationships with departments throughout the agency, as well as external agencies for the purpose of internal and external client management and referrals.

Reports to: Assistant Director, Geffen Center

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and a New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute Certificate of Attendance in HIV Testing Procedures. This person should have an ability to respond to and manage a wide array of anxiety levels that clients may present either in person or on the phone. Solid word-processing skills, including spreadsheet applications; knowledge of Windows environment, excellent file and record management skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and basic level counseling skills.

ASSISTANT CONTROLLER, Finance
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for the timely and accurate recording of all transactions that impact the GMHC general ledger and supervision of accounting operations that include accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and similar activities. Responsibilities include coordinating the monthly closing process and assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, supervise accounting personnel including reviews of the accuracy of all transactions, bank reconciliations, and accounts payable checks. The Assistant Controller will direct all accounting functions and ensure compliance with Finance policies, procedures and internal fiscal quality control systems throughout the agency. Further duties include assisting in the preparation of all schedules needed to complete the annual agency-wide audit, grant audits, Workers' Compensation audit and ensure the proper accounting and timely distribution of client related funds from various government support programs. This position also requires training and supervising staff on fiscal procedures, back-up support, assisting with special projects and other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Reports to: Controller/ Director of Finance and Accounting

Qualifications: BA or BS degree in Accounting is required. Proven experience in managing accounting operations; demonstrated proficiency in the use of Excel and other accounting/financial applications software; MIP and FundE-Z accounting software is a plus. Supervisory experience necessary with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; must have good communication skills. The position requires a through knowledge of non-profit accounting, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate and communicate financial information to non-financial staff. The Assistant Controller should have extensive knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting and financial management. Assistant Director, Research & Planning; Women's Institute
The Assistant Director (AD) of Research & Planning at the Women's Institute (WI) will partner with the WI Director to provide strategic leadership and capacity for the Women's Institute's developing research portfolio. They will be responsible for the oversight and implementation of all research and evaluation initiatives conducted solely or collaboratively by the Women's Institute. The AD will conduct and disseminate research and analysis, with a focus on best-practice, community and structural-level HIV prevention and service programs and policies that impact women at GMHC and beyond. The Assistant Director will implement applied and participatory action research and evaluation projects internally with GMHC programs that serve women and externally with academic institutions, advocacy groups, think tanks, medical facilities, and other social service agencies. Under the direction of the Director of the Women's Institute, the Assistant Director of Research and Planning will design, implement, and oversee research on the primary and secondary HIV prevention needs of women as well as formative, process, and outcome evaluations of HIV and AIDS prevention and service programming targeting women. In addition, the Assistant Director will work with the Director to advance a research agenda on behalf of women impacted by HIV and AIDS, including the need for increased evaluation and research funding for women-specific projects and for the implementation of evidence-based, best-practice interventions for women. The Assistant Director of Research and Evaluation will partner with all arms of the Women's Institute (i.e., the Peer Leadership Initiative, Social Marketing and Media, Best Practice and Technical Assistance, Community Level Prevention, Outreach and Policy and Mobilization) to, re-shape and re-invigorate the research agenda for women and HIV and AIDS.

Reports To: Director, Women's Institute

Qualifications: The position requires a Master's degree in public health, mental health, social science, public policy or a related discipline. This person must have research and evaluation experience in not-for-profit settings and be adept at both quantitative and qualities research methodologies. Experience managing government and private research and evaluation grants and contracts preferred along with a working knowledge and experience of providing HIV prevention interventions and services to women, girls and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) communities. Experience with community and structural-level interventions is also preferred. Program management experience related to women, children and families on issues of health, parenting, HIV and AIDS, LGBT issues and related topics desired. Must have familiarity and knowledge of structural drivers of HIV epidemic among women i.e. violence and trauma issues, education, economic security, stigma, incarceration. This individual should have excellent written, verbal & organizational skills in conjunction with established analytic and critical thinking skills and the ability to provide training, consultation and support on research and evaluation topics to professional and paraprofessional staff. Attention to detail and ability to follow through on complex projects a must. The AD should exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with staff, ability to facilitate and work in teams and coalitions, volunteers, and clients, with sensitivity to client confidentiality and other issues in a human services setting. Proven experience working with diverse groups of women and children living with or impacted by HIV and AIDS, particularly in a clinical supervisory capacity.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, MENTAL HEALTH, Palm Center
The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the integration of four distinct counseling, support and harm reduction programs of the Palm Center, to offer seamless coordination of mental health and prevention services for new and returning clients. These management responsibilities also include the coordination of a Rapid Response Team, providing crisis intervention and clinical triage for GMHC clients. This position provides direct supervision of the program management staff who in turn oversee all direct clinical and psychoeduational care functions for the Palm Center and GMHC. With the Director, the Associate Director provides guidance and direction for the Palm Center as a whole, holding key responsibilities as a manager and representative of the department. Specific responsibilities include overseeing the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the Counseling and Support unit's mental health programs of the Palm Center, preparing, administering and monitoring the department budget, directing and supervising Coordinators of the Palm Center mental health programs, coordinating and communicating with other GMHC program directors and program coordinators, as well as relevant outside agencies and organizations, and supervising the preparation of grant applications, program proposals and required grant program reports.

Qualifications: Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) and LCSW required, SIFI preferred. Proven post master's supervisory/management experience required. Confirmed experience in program development and implementation, demonstrated experience in contract management and budget construction, implementation and monitoring activities are musts. The Associate Director should have proven experience working with HIV/AIDS, substance use populations, and mental health counseling experience. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team is essential.

CASE MANAGER: COBRA, Coordinated Care
The Case Manager will provide clients with a variety of case management services while serving as the supervisor of the caseload of clients and is responsible for assigning tasks to two team members in order to meet the demands of the caseload. Duties include evaluating current and anticipated problems and needs of clients and their support networks, facilitating referrals for assistance as appropriate and collaborating with other intra-agency and external health care providers and government benefit agencies to assure provision of quality health care, adequate housing and sufficient nutrition to reduce barrier to care and progression of HIV illness. CASE TECHNICIAN, Coordinated Care
Under the supervision of a Case Manager, the Case Technician works in tandem with the Case Manager and the Community Follow-up Worker to provide a variety of client services, such as advocacy with social service agencies, help with obtaining medical care and help with obtaining entitlements. The Case Technician also participates and cooperates with team members in all aspects of their activities. This is an entry level professional position without supervisory duties. Specific responsibilities include exploring information related to the current and/or anticipated needs of clients by utilizing interviews with clients, family and other relevant sources, contracting with clients and their support networks to provide services and resolve environmental difficulties which interfere with obtaining maximum benefits from medical care, performing home visits and community follow up to monitor services to and for clients, mobilizing community agencies and other support networks to give assistance and maintaining up-to-date records as required by agency procedures and funding agency requirements.

Reports to: Case Manager/Supervisor

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work/psychology or other health/mental health related field, or previous experience in a COBRA case management program preferred. Proven experience in working directly with people infected/affected by HIV/AIDS, preferably in a hospital or ambulatory care program is required. Experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Good verbal, writing and computer skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

COORDINATOR, BENEFITS/HRIS, Human Resources
The Coordinator, Benefits/HRIS coordinates Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and benefit administration activities, as well as the office management of the Department. Specific responsibilities include managing, developing, implementing, maintaining and coordinating computerized human resources information systems (HRIS), training department and organizational staff on system access and utilization, preparing and communicating information to employees and former employees about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures and providing service to employees around benefit questions, problem resolution, and processing enrollment forms and changes. Other duties include managing the administrative component of the performance evaluation process, coordinating the agency's annual Open-Enrollment activities and managing the agency's room reservation system.

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Qualifications: BA/BS in Human Resources Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience is required. Proven experience in office administration in a Human Resources setting is required, along with hands-on experience working with window-based database (Access) software. Strong working knowledge of ADP HR Benefits software and Reportsmith is a plus. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to work independently and to balance multiple projects successfully, superior administrative, clerical and computer skills with working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to represent the department and the agency with professionalism, including discretion and sensitivity to confidential matters. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must.

DIRECTOR, DAVID GEFFEN CENTER FOR HIV PREVENTION AND EDUCATION
The Director, Geffen Center administers, manages, and guides all aspects of the operation of the GMHC Hotline, A-Team (walk-in peer counseling), HIV Counseling and Testing, Prevention Case Management and Treatment Education and Adherence Programs of the Geffen Center.

The Director oversees the maintenance and enhancement of IRIS, the Hotline computerized database system, and all information entered into it, collects, reviews, and distributes all incoming HIV-related information, facilitates monthly A-Team supervision meetings and weekly clinical meetings for each program within the Department and composes departmental budget and program reviews for all programs within the Department. Other responsibilities include handling all aspects of grants management for both private and government grants, functioning as referral liaison between GMHC and other members of the AIDS Services community and representing the agency to the media, potential or current donors, and to visitors from other AIDS organization who tour GMHC. The Director provides direct supervision to a staff of three, and is responsible for a department of approximately fifteen staff.

Reports to: Managing Director, Program Services and Program Evaluation

Requirements: Masters level degree in mental health preferred (Social Work, Psychology or related field). Proven experience in supervision and management of direct service programs including contract management, budget development and oversight and staff supervision is required. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of local AIDS service providers, a thorough understanding of HIV disease and the AIDS epidemic and related issues, excellent management and administrative skills, excellent writing skills; and a strong working knowledge of Windows-based software systems.

DIRECTOR, COPRPORATE AND FOUNDATION RELATIONS, Development
The Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations is responsible for supporting the agency by achieving an ambitious revenue goal composed of a number of different corporate and foundation revenue streams (grants, matching gifts, sponsorships, employee-initiated contributions, cause-related marketing, etc.). S/he manages all aspects of GMHC's cultivation and solicitation process with Corporate and Foundation funders, and is responsible for creating and implementing effective fund-raising strategies, which often include composing substantive proposals for institutional donors to secure annual revenues and multi-year pledges for priorities across the agency. The Director serves as primary arbiter of the Corporate Contributions Policy, and works closely with the Senior Managing Director of Development & Legislative funding on strategic approaches to fundraising for programs, policy, and general support of the agency.

Reports to: Senior Managing Director, Development and Legislative Funding

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, graduate degree preferred. Advanced computer literacy skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge is helpful. Candidates should possess a collaborative work style, personal initiative and attention to detail, as well as the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The Director should be capable of motivating staff and taking creative approaches to problem solving, strategic fundraising, and a good general understanding of fund-raising issues, general foundation and corporate funding initiatives.

MANAGED CARE ADVOCATE, Palm Center
The Managed Care Advocate provides education and advocacy assistance to HIV+ individuals and their families and care givers and HIV high risk individuals who need assistance in accessing or maintaining managed health Care, other health plans or benefits, and governmental entitlements and resources assuring uninterrupted health care access, appropriate quality of care and conditions fostering improved health outcomes. The advocate identifies presenting issues, researches and gathers information, strategically plans to resolve issues, and performs direct contact and negotiation with relevant providers, agencies and organizations to achieve issues resolution. This position will educate other service providers, care givers, social workers and the general public regarding health care access and coverage options, quality of care and managed health care for HIV+ individuals.

Responsibilities include facilitating group educational presentations to educate on accessing health care, maintaining health care, quality of care standards, application processes, benefits and entitlements eligibility, including Medicaid Managed Care, ADAP, Medicare and how to plan and assure financial stability when faced with health care and other expenses. This position will require partnering within the organization and with other community based organizations and service providers through effective oral and written communications. The Advocate will provide education and advocacy assistance through group and individual meetings, phone consultations and in written communications. Modeling of appropriate advocacy techniques and the use of various educational methods including sharing of responsibilities with the individual being assisted is essential. Further duties include recording all client and related interactions in the client database to meet contract deliverables and identifying trends in issues presented by clients to implement changes in benefits and insurance.

The managed care advocate is expected to work closely with GMHC staff in other units/departments to provide a coordinated response to client needs and to help with issue resolutions. Case conferences and referrals internally to other GMHC units/departments are anticipated. The advocate is expected to develop cooperative effective working relationships with staff at other service providers, GMHC contract funders, health providers, private health care entities and government agencies.

Reports: Assistant Director, Advocacy

Qualifications: A Bachelors Degree is required along with proven experience working with individuals with HIV/AIDS or other disabilities, chronic illnesses and healthcare delivery and/or benefits & entitlements. Excellent interpersonal skills, superior oral and written communication skills and data entry skills are required. An individual with bilingual English/Spanish skills is preferred. POLICY ANALYST, Policy
The Policy Analyst will conduct and disseminate research and analysis, and build a community-based advocacy movement, in support of science-based, effective HIV prevention policies and adequate treatment resources at the local, state, national and global level. This position will focus on populations most at-risk for HIV infection in the U.S., including: Black gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM); gay/bi men of other races; women, particularly Black and Latina women; youth and young adults; intravenous drug users; transgender people; people with criminal justice histories; sex workers; and some immigrant populations. The Policy Analyst will work closely with the Directors of Public Policy, the Women's Institute, and the Institute for Gay Men's Health to help build GMHC's profile as an authoritative source of social science research and policy analysis in partnership with researchers in academia and elsewhere.

Duties may include: coordinating GMHC's role in advocacy efforts to repeal the U.S. HIV travel and immigration ban; convening a collation of partner agencies invested in immigration reform; editing a publication on current HIV-related treatment and prevention research and advocacy developments; leading GMHC's role in Medicaid and Medicare reform; advocating for expanded prevention and treatment in Africa, Asia and Latin America through the (U.S.) President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR); advocating for expansion of health coverage and access for those at risk for HIV and PLWHA; engaging universal health care debates happening at the state and local level to advance the concerns of high-risk negatives and PLWHA; conducting and producing research and policy analysis documenting the need for effective public health policies, drug treatment policies, housing and criminal justice policies that meet the needs of those most at risk for HIV and PLWHA.

The Policy Analyst will also work with the other related departments within GMHC to develop policy and budget analysis of potential public funding streams to support community education targeting men who have sex with men, and women of all sexual orientations, through culturally appropriate social marketing materials to effectively deliver health messages and confront social norms related to HIV risk, substance use (including crystal methamphetamine), and stigma.

Reports to: Director, Public Policy

Qualifications: Master's degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration or related field, or J.D. preferred. Bachelor's degree required. Significant experience in HIV prevention, care and/or advocacy, especially in communities of color and/or gay/LGBT communities preferred. Public policy analysis and social science research skills (including quantitative methodologies) required. Strong ability to lead required. Knowledge of HIV and health policies and related political and human rights issues preferred. Demonstrated success working with diverse communities and working together toward shared goals required. This includes diversity of race/ethnicity, class, gender, age, political perspective, ability, sexual orientation, religion/no religion, and citizenship. Experience designing and developing successful grant proposals, and experience in program evaluation preferred.

SharePoint Administrator/Technical Support Analyst, Information Systems
This position ensures continuity of computer system services for computer users by providing the technical expertise, assistance, and project coordination necessary to install computer software products, modify/repair hardware and resolve technical problems. Additionally, this person will act as the SharePoint Administrator and provide training to staff in use of SharePoint and office products.

Duties will include configuring machines, installing software, software patches and joining to the correct domain along with participating in the integration testing of new software on existing and intended environment. The Administrator will communicate with the vendor(s) and various technical web-sites to obtain software fixes for software, hardware and computer problems. This person will provide technical support for software, hardware problems (including printers) via the phone as well as desk site visits within the GMHC agency. The Administrator will serve as the backup Network Administrator and will verify that nightly backups have been performed. The Administrator should be able to track customer problems from inception to closure, be able to utilize Track-IT! and prepare monthly reports to show call tracking type and volume. Further responsibilities will include bringing Microsoft SharePoint to run all departments of the agency, as well as maintaining Group Permissions in Active Directory/Exchange. It will also be necessary for this individual to train staff on the proper use of the SharePoint system effectively and be a proponent of how it can help all users. It will also be necessary for the Administrator to modify/add/delete VoIP users to the communication VLAN. As with all of our employees it is essential that this person create a welcoming and professional environment for all volunteers and embrace the value of volunteerism at GMHC.

Reports to: Assistant Director, Information Systems

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Science, Math, Electrical Engineering or related area; or equivalent experience is required. Should have superior communication skills with strong customer focus, and proven experience serving a broad customer base is required. Additionally, strong troubleshooting capability with all types of hardware and software, some networking, and some application knowledge are all skills the applicant will need to possess. The Administrator should have expert knowledge of Windows XP, Windows Server 2k3, Office 2003/2007, Exchange 2007, SharePoint, Cisco. Excellent documentation procedures, ability to work with minimal supervision, good communication skills with new and old technology and excellent time management skills are required.

Gay Men's Health Crisis Inc., the nations oldest and largest AIDS service organization, provides exciting internship opportunities to nurture and develop talent while providing additional support in the fight against AIDS. In addition, students experience the distinct character of working in a nonprofit work environment. As an AIDS service organization dedicated to providing education, advocacy and direct services to men, women and children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, GMHC has supervised internships in a variety of departments and units of our agency. These departments include, but are not limited to: our world renowned AIDS Hotline, Public Policy, Human Resources, Communications/Marketing and Accounting departments and our Child Life, HIV Prevention, Recreation, Women and Family Services, Treatment Education and Support Services, and other client program areas.

We encourage students to further explore our web site to gain a broad understanding of the services we provide and the specific area of the agency they would like to intern in.

Eligibility and Guidelines
Internship opportunities are open to qualified individuals affiliated with an accredited academic institution or job training program.

We welcome students from graduate, undergraduate, certificate and job training programs. Since we are a nonprofit environment, our internships are unpaid, but we will support academic institution requirements for students by completing all paperwork required by the intern's school or program.

High School students interested in an internship are assigned to supervised on-site internships and do not have direct client contact. High School students will also be required to complete a Parental Consent Form.

Supervision
All interns will have direct supervision from a GMHC staff member. Our supervisors are committed to ensuring that interns have appropriate and clearly directed assignments that are related to student academic program as well as being relevant to the day to day operations of the Agency.
